ATTENDANCE POLICY

It is important for parents and students to understand that high grades and good attendance go hand in hand.  In-class work in the fayette county schools comprises a significant portion of a student's grade.  Therefore, poor attendance will result in lower grades in most cases.

It is the goal of the PLD staff to have every student in attendance everyday.  When absences are necessary, parents are asked to call the attendance clerk between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the day when a student will be absent.  Students should bring a note, written and signed by the parent, upon their return to school.  This should be turned into the attendance office.  Board Policy requires that all written absence excuses be received within (2) school days of a student's return to school.  (If notes are not received within (2) days the absence(s) will be unexcused.  Upon receipt of the note, the attendance clerk will issue an excused absence form to students if one of the following reasons to given:

        1.  illness

        2.  death or severe illness in the immediate family

        3.  religious holidays approved prior to absence

        4.  medical/dental appointments

        5.  special cases approved in advance by the principals

Students must receive an absence form from the attendance clerk and give it to their first hour teacher to be admitted to class.  The student is responsible for securing make up assignments from each teacher in the event of an excused absence.  Make up work will not be assigned or accepted for an unexcused absence.

Students having justifiable absences shall be allowed to make up work.  It is the responsibility of the student and parent/guardian to contact the teachers concerning make up work during planning periods or before or after school hours.  The principal with the teacher will determine whether make up work for unexcused absences will be given.  Announced tests for which students had an adequate time or prior notice to study shall be made up on the day immediately following the absence.
