A Message From Sir Isaac Newton

Dear Students,

       My name is Sir Isaac Newton, you may have heard of me. (I am the scientist who had the apple drop on my head!)  I developed three laws of motion that have helped many different work fields grow and develop. The three Laws of Motion are:

   1.   * An object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by a force.

     * An object moving in a straight line will continue to move in a straight line and constant speed unless acted on by another force.

               * The first law of motion is also called the law of Inertia.

   2.  * How fast an object moves after it is pushed depends on the force of the push and the mass of the object.
               * Force = mass X acceleration
                        F = ma

    3.    * For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

-       I also discovered the Universal Law of Gravitation. This law can change depending on the mass of objects and the distance between them. My friend Galileo conducted experiments about the force of gravity and falling objects.

I know you have spent some time talking and learning about gravity and the laws of motion. With the new age of technology and the internet there are many opportunities for exploring what I discovered in the late 16oo’s. I have done research to find websites where you can explore my laws of motion and gravity.

I challenge you to find three ways in which each of the laws of motion play a factor in today’s world and in your everyday life. I also challenge you to write a description of gravity and describe the experiments conducted by Galileo.

After you have discovered these ways make a creative power point showing the way gravity and the laws of motion impact your life (also include Galileo's experiments on falling objects). Make sure to visit all of the websites and use Good Search to find more information. HAVE FUN and BE CREATIVE with your project!

Remember, "No discovery was ever made without a bold guess."

Sincerely Your Friend,

Sir Isaac Newton

From Mr. Crump:

No copy and pasting! Write what you learn in your own words!

Make sure you DESCRIBE and EXPLAIN the three laws and be creative when creating your power point.

Make sure you DESCRIBE and EXPLAIN  Newton’s universal law of gravitation and Galileo’s experiments.
