Part 1 : Plate Tectonics. Please conduct the research and write what you learn in your own words. Do not copy and paste!

1. Describe the theory of plate tectonics and make sure to include information about Pangaea.

2. What is convection within the mantle and how does it affect the motion of the plates?

3. List and describe the different types of plate boundaries.

4. Explain the difference between a subduction zone and a mid-ocean ridge.

5. List the major plates of the Earth and what plate is Kentucky located?

6. Include a map of the plates of the world.

3. What is the difference between magma and lava?

5. Describe the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Part 4: Volcano Research. Please conduct the research and write what you learn in your own words. Do not copy and paste!

Once you have been assigned a number you will find your volcano from the list above.

Answer the following 10 questions.

Your mission is to find information and report on a volcano.

Your report must include:

1. Name of volcano
2. Type of volcano
3. Geographic location
4. Name of the nearest cities and towns that are closest to volcano and list the distance from the volcano.
5. Populations of the cities or towns listed above.
6. Date of most recent eruption.
7. Date of most destructive eruption. List the effects the eruption had on humans, weather, buildings, forests, etc.
8. List all associated events with the past eruptions (earthquakes, floods, mudslides, ash clouds, etc.)
9. Predict when the next eruption will take place.
10. List three interesting facts about your volcano that are not listed above.
11. List the websites you used that were the most helpful for part 4.
