Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986) is considered one of the most famous female artists of the 20th century.  She is known for her colorful paintings of flowers as well as the American southwestern paintings.  Often, in her later paintings, O'Keefe showed bones and simple settings.   She also was married to the famous black and white photographer Alfred Stiglitz.

The painting "Red Poppy" is one of her best examples of her flower series of paintings.  O'Keeffe was known for her very large paintings with very bright colors.  The painting shows in detail the petals as well as the center of the flower.
