Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Málaga, Spain. As the son of an academic painter, José Ruiz Blanco, he began to draw at an early age.  Picasso had many stages and styles to his paintings.  He had a period known as a "Blue Period"  where many of his paintings were very dark and blue in color.  Other periods include a "Rose Period" as well has his most famous period called his "Abstract" or "Cubist Periods".  Picasso's works covered many subjects and he is considered one of  the most famous artist of the 20th century.

In 1936 in protest of the Spanish Civil War, Picasso painted one of his most famous pieces called "Guernica".  This powerful painting shows the horrors of war and is in stark black and white.  The large painting was in protest of the war and shows figures in movement around the canvas.  It is in the style of cubism.
