| Over thirty-five million (35,000,000) people
came to America during the years of 1820 to 1924. Journeys for
many of these immigrants were not easy. Actually, they were
dangerous and many lost their lives making their way to freedom.
People came to America for many different reasons and from many
different places. Some of the reasons included religious freedom,
educational opportunities, better jobs, better working conditions, earn
money to send back to their homeland, freedom of speech, escape wars and
famine and even some were forced to migrate to America from their
homeland.
When immigrants arrived in America, they had to go to a place called Ellis Island before they were allowed to enter the United States. Your teacher has given you your post card with a few details about who you are and from where you are coming. |
