Classroom Guidelines
Mrs. Michaels
7th Grade Language Arts
From the moment you entered Edythe J. Hayes, you
became a part of a team. The success of any team depends on each person doing
his/her part, and everyone knowing the game plan and agreeing to it. The rules that you follow will help you to
succeed not only in my classroom, but throughout the entire school. My class has a Class Constitution in which
every person in the classroom has responsibilities as a citizen of that
classroom. In order for students to truly succeed I realize that education is a
partnership between teachers and parents.
With that in mind, I ask my parents as well as my students to agree to
the following:
Class Constitution:
Every person in this classroom has the right to learn.
Responsibilities of the citizens of
this class:
Every person in this classroom has the responsibility
to support a positive safe environment that will enhance learning.
Classroom Rules:
1. Arrive ready to work-Stay in your assigned
seat and bring your appropriate books,
notebook, pencils/paper, and agenda book
(required by the school) to class everyday.
2. Record any homework in your agenda book daily
along with learner outcomes.
3. Be in your seat, ready to work when the bell
rings. Per the schools 10/10 rule no
students are allowed out of the classroom
the first 10 minutes of class or the last 10
minutes of class. You must have your
agenda signed in order to leave the classroom.
At the end of class Mrs. Michaels
dismisses the class not the bell.
4. Work silently (level 0) when asked to work
independently, and speak softly (level 1)
when working in groups. Yes, you will have to work and get along with
everyone in
the classroom.
5. Show respect and kindness
to every student in the classroom, and the teacher through
your words and your actions.
6. Always do your very best
and turn your work in on time.
7. Students need to be dressed in appropriate
school attire, and are NOT allowed
to chew
gum.
8. When you enter Mrs.
Michaels classroom be prepared to listen, learn and laugh often!
My classroom rules can be summed up this way-mutual
respect and cooperation will be shown by everyone.
Team Marks
This year every team at E. J. Hayes Middle School will
follow the same marks system. Students who disobey can receive marks from
Thursday to Thursday for the following reasons:
·
Cheating = 5
Marks
·
Defiance/disrespect
= 3 Marks
·
Disruptive
Behavior = 3 Marks
·
Inappropriate
hallway behavior = 3 Marks
·
In appropriate
lunch room behavior = 3 Marks
·

drink in class = 2 Marks
·
Tardiness = 2
Marks
·
Lack of Materials

·

·

·

What happens on Thursday when
a student receives marks? Teams will check marks every Thursday, and assign the
appropriate consequence using the tiered system outlined below.
Students, who accumulate 5-9
marks within one week period (Thursday to Thursday), will be given one of the
following consequences:
·
Silent Lunch
·

detention packet level 1
·

·
30 minute

Students who accumulate 10-14

following consequences:
·

·

·

Students who accumulate 15
plus marks within one week period (Thursday to Thursday) will be given one of
the following consequences:
·

another grade level
·
1 ˝ hour
detention
·
Parent teacher
administration conference will automatically be held
Please Note:
Students who miss detention or who do not
return the character education packet will be given all day team isolation for
the first occurrence. The second occurrence will result in an office referral,
which will result in Saturday school.
Positive Behavior= Rewards
For some reason, very few students choose
to disobey in my classroom. Perhaps it's
because they see the value of these rules. Perhaps it's because their parents
are so consistent in teaching them discipline and self-control. Perhaps it's because my students realize they
are growing up and are too mature to act so juvenile. Some people, however, suspect that their
cooperation is closely linked to my incentives.
If a student receives no marks in my
classroom for an entire week (Thursday to Thursday) then that student may
select where they would like to seat in my classroom for the following week. If
students receive no marks in my classroom for two consecutive weeks in a row,
then those students are invited to eat lunch in my classroom and watch the game
show “Price is Right”.
Silent Lunch
I do not believe in giving students busy work
and therefore, if and when I give homework it is to reinforce what has been
learned in the classroom. If a student chooses to not complete homework
properly that student will be assigned silent lunch until the work has been appropriately
completed. Reminder homework is the responsibility of the student not the
parent.
I have read and understand the above classroom
guidelines, constitution, and rules.
