Connecting Precalculus and Geometry with Cabri™ Jr.

In this session we will use Cabri Jr. to create the conic sections and find an equation for the conic created. The general equation of a conic section is Ax^2 + Bxy + Cy^2+ Dx + Ey + F = 0. We will use linear algebra and the programming capabilities of the TI-84 to solve complex matrices that will give us the equation of a conic section through five points. Familiarity with Cabri Jr. will be assumed, but not required.

Relative Derivatives

The relative derivative of a function f(x) is defined by f*(x) = f '(x)/ f(x) and denoted by f*(x). A product rule, quotient rule, and chain rule for relative derivatives will be investigated and relative derivatives of some elementary functions will be established.  Other investigations of calculus topics involving the relative derivative will be discussed.
