Welcome to drama class where everyone
is a star! My name is Carolann Botkins and I am the drama teacher at
Liberty, one of only three elementary schools in Fayette County that has
drama as part of the Arts and Humanities curriculum. I am
also known to most of our students as DRAMA MAMA....a name which I
adore. I taught at Julia R. Ewan for twenty-four years before coming to
Liberty. I was fortunate enough to teach every grade, including special
education, before becoming the drama specialist five years ago. My
past experience has been such an asset since I work with all grade
levels in our school.
If you visit our classroom you might
see any number of things going on in class. We cover drama core
content through reader's theater, creative dramatics, and cultural
studies. The beauty of the curriculum is that it lends itself well to
the to integration of the core content of other subject areas. Literacy
is incorporated in every lesson that I teach. Students
are also give many opportunities to perform both in and out of class.
Ms. Elliott and I will work together to insure that all grade levels
will participate in at least one evening performance.
