Dysphagia is a disorder of swallowing, and may also be known as a disorder of deglutition.  It is associated with a variety of medical conditions including neuromuscular disorders, cancer, and the  removal of structures involved in swallowing.  It is most common in the elderly (Hegde, 2001).

Electrical Stimulation Therapy- “Electrical stimulation is defines as the use of an electric current to transfer energy to a wound.  The type of electricity that is transferred is controlled by the electrical source.  Capacitatively coupled electrical stimulation involves the transfer of electric current through an applied surface electrode pad that is in wet contact with the external skin surface (Sussman, n.d.).”  Electrical stimulation in Dysphagia therapy often improves quality of life.
