Effects of Dysphagia

Nearly 15 million people in the United states are affected by dysphagia, and severe dysphagia predisposes to medical complications such as aspiration pneumonia, bronchospasm, dehydration, malnutrition, and asphyxia. Existing modalities for treating dysphagia can take weeks or even months to show improvement (Freed, n.d.).
