Prevalence of Dysphagia in the U.S.,

Approximately 15 million adults in the US are affected by dysphagia.

 

Approximately 6 million are over the age of 60.

 

Approximately 70% of nursing home residents have dysphagia.

 

Between 300,000 and 600,000 dysphagia cases in stroke patients per year.

 

Approximately 50% of stroke patients experience aspiration; approx. 35% develop pneumonia; approx. 3.5% will die of pneumonia.
