Dear Students and Parents:

I am so excited to be your 4th grade teacher this year! I hope that you have had a great summer and that you are getting excited about coming back to school. This is my fifth year teaching 4th grade at Garden Springs Elementary. I have two children, Jessica is a senior at Dunbar and Lee is in the 8th grade at Beaumont. I am married to Charlie and have been for 21 years! You will get to hear all about Charlie, Jessica and Lee during the year.

Homework will be assigned on a daily basis, Monday through Thursday. I believe that homework is an extension of learning outside of the classroom. Students will NOT be expected to do work outside of class that has not been discussed in class. Your child should not be spending more than an hour on homework each evening. Please let me know if this occurs. Your child will be using a daily planner to note all homework assignments and I do expect parents to review and sign their child’s planner each day.

I know that communication is key and I encourage open communication. Ways that we can communicate are notes in the planner, e-mail, telephone calls, and conferences. I will hold at least two conferences this year for your child, but more can be scheduled as needed. I will send home a newsletter at least monthly letting you know of upcoming events, assignments, and what is being covered in the classroom.

Our class and school needs parental support! Please join the PTA and get involved. There are many ways that you can be involved in our classroom. If you are interested in volunteering in our class, please let me know and we will find the job that fits you best.

I am looking forward to a most successful year. It is my goal to help your child achieve at high levels! But, it takes all of us to make this happen—child, parent, and teacher! Let’s work together to make sure that your child is successful. I am depending on your active support!
