Dear Parents,
Some of you have asked about our lunch schedule. Our lunch time is 11:50 – 12:15. We would be happy to see you share this time with your children.
Our classroom schedule is not set in stone yet. As long as the temperature is 90 degrees or above, we will have recess in the morning. When the weather becomes cooler, we will go outside in the afternoon. I like for the students to have their morning break when they attend their specials and an afternoon break when we have recess. The temperature in the classroom varies. Sometimes it’s hot and not very comfortable. Other times it is chilly. Of course, chilly is preferred because everyone can put on a sweater or light jacket. Please ask your children if they are cold in the classroom. If so, please send an old sweater or jacket that they can leave here. If they bring a good one that has to be taken home every day they may forget it the next day. Thank you for assisting in this situation.
Our first Scholastic book orders for the year are in the students’ folders. If you would like to order books, please make the check or money order payable to Scholastic Books. The office at school can not accept checks payable to Picadome for these book orders. If you send a check that is made out to Picadome, I will have to return it to you. Also, we can not accept cash. Book orders are due this Friday. The books should arrive by the first week of September.
Most of the parents have completed the paperwork that must be filled out for your child’s participation in several activities at school. The blue cards and white information sheets are also due now. If you still have any of the forms at home, please fill them out and return them with your children.
Our unit in Math is focusing on number sense and will include algebraic thinking. This is the foundation for many other concepts so it is crucial for the students to understand what we are doing in class. When your child brings a Math paper home that is lower than 80 percent, please go over it and reinforce how to do the concepts. We will also work with small groups who need additional help with the work.
During Social Studies we are working on the concepts of rights and responsibilities. We will also learn about the role of local government. I will teach Social Studies for a few weeks and then switch off and teach Science. Students also attend Science lab once a week on a regular basis.
