Grading
Your child's papers that are done independently for class work and for homework will be graded with a percentage. The percentage translates into grades as follows:
| 90 - 100 |
|
Excellent |
| 75 - 89 |
|
Satisfactory |
| 60-74 |
|
Needs Improvement |
| 59% or Below |
|
Unsatisfactory |
Any papers that come home with a star, smiley face, checkmark, etc., are review papers or papers that we have done together. I will be keeping track to make sure that all work is turned in, however they will not figure into the grade. Also, class work or homework not turned in will be given a grade of 0%, which is then averaged into the grade for the report card. I also look at the review work and work done together which is not turned in and this is reflected in the responsibility part on the report card.
I expect all of my students to SUCCEED! I know the students can do all things, if they put their minds to it, and have support and encouragement. I expect the students to take responsibility for their own actions and attitude. Talking, visiting, and playing can become a stumbling block to their education and their grades. Some children can talk and still make good grades, however it is not fair if it interferes with their neighbor's grade.
Other stumbling blocks to success are incomplete work, assignments that are rushed through, and assigments that are not turned in. Please do not allow your child to get behind. Assignments generally build upon the knowledge learned from previous work, and tests cover concepts learned in all of the assignments. Each assignment which is late or left undone will make it more difficult for students to complete future assignments and prepare for assessments/tests.
I will send home graded papers daily. I average and record grades, and can discuss these grades with parents/guardians at request. Please keep all papers until the end of each nine weeks or longer. This way, if there is any question about grades, will will be able to refer back to them.
Any assignment (except a test or quiz) which receives below a 75% may be corrected, and the two grades will be averaged to formulate the new grade. This redo is optional, and I will mark any papers which may be redone.
