What is CAS???

CAS is an acronym that stands for Creativity, Action, and Service.  It is a requirement of the IB Programme for all students to complete 150 CAS hours, 50 hours from each group.  The idea is that it helps build a more well-rounded student.

Freshman Seminar is not an IB class, however, the freshman seminar teachers felt that CAS was a great thing for students to be involved with - regardless of what program of study they are involved in.  However, in order to make this a much more manageable project for a one semester freshman class, we scaled the requirement back to three hours.

You need to accumulate ONE HOUR from each category:

CREATIVITY: anything that has you engaged in a creative outlet that you are not receiving school credit for!  Dance classes, drama productions, painting, drawing, writing, participating in book clubs - the possibilities are endless.  Check with your teacher to make sure that what you wish to count towards your hour will work.

ACTION:  anything that requires you to get up and move or participate (like a club).  If you play club sports or marching band, COMPETITIONS will count, but not practices.  Again, check with your teacher to make sure that what you wish to count towards your hour will work.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:    anything you do that is a service to someone else in your community (you may not receive payment for it!!!).  Again, check with your teacher to make sure that what you wish to count towards your hour will work.

Make sure to log your time, and get the appropriate signatures on your paperwork!!!
