GRADING

If/when you are checking over your student's progress report and you find that there are some zeroes, please keep the following in mind:

Whenever I do not have a paper from a student, REGARDLESS of the reason, I enter it as a zero UNTIL I have the paper graded.  That means that the student may not have made up the work from when they were absent, they have unexcused absences, or they simply didn't hand in an assignment.  If a student has turned in their make-up work and it is still a zero, it's because I haven't gotten it graded yet.  Please trust that I will get it graded and update grades in a timely fashion.

Make up work is always given to a student the first day I see them back in class.  Explanations and due dates are included on that sheet. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO COMPLETE AND HAND IN MAKE UP WORK!  If a time needs to be scheduled to make work up, they need to see me and schedule a time ASAP!

Labs, tests, and quizzes are to be made up before or after school.  Our time together in class is too precious, and the child who was absent is already a day behind.  Why put them another day behind to make up work missed?

Please also keep in mind...

30% of the grade is based on daily work, 20% is based on homework, 20% is based on quizzes, and the last 30% is based on tests.  Fayette County policy states that 50% of the grade must come from tests, the other 50% comes from daily work/activities.

Looking at the averages in each of these categories will give you an idea of where exactly the student is struggling (i.e. a low homework average means that the student is having trouble getting homework done and handed in, or is handing in incomplete/incorrect work).
