NOVEMBER
2009
Dear Parents,
I can't believe it is already November! Our school year is going at a record pace. We have already reached the 50-day mark! We have many fun and exciting things to learn this month and I want to let you know what we have planned!
This month, the big theme is centered on Social Studies. We will be investigating our history of Thanksgiving, cultures and traditions, past and present. We will investigate how our environment affects our culture and we will continue to learn about consumers & producers, and wants & needs. An excellent side trip for the family would be to visit the Patterson Log Cabin by the old library downtown or McConnell Springs the site of Lexington’s 1st settlement. Keep this in mind during the holidays if you need a family activity. Our culminating activity will be a performance in the gym on November 18 at 10:00. You will be receiving an invitation with more information. We are hoping that you will be able to stay for the family Thanksgiving lunch!
Nutrition will be studied, with an emphasis on identifying foods which belong in the basic food groups. We will also discuss eating the proper foods to keep our body healthy. Early experiences with food are very important in forming life-long habits.
In math we will work on counting to 100 and writing the numerals to 100 and exploring odd and even numbers. We will also be working on “math stories” which will introduce the students to beginning addition/subtraction concepts . We will also be working on probability.
Book It! is still going on. The required reading for this month is 10 books. Everyone is expected to participate in at-home reading. Please send in the attached reading log when you have completed the reading. The goal is for your child to have a positive reading experience at home. Please do not insist upon them reading to you. If your child would like to read that is great, but the idea is just to spend time reading whether they read to you or you read to them. Send in the list and I’ll give your child a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.
Thank you to Mrs. Nash and Mrs. Sandoval for organizing our Fall celebration!
Thank you to all of the parents who contributed their time or goodies!! We had a wonderful celebration!!
