Teacher Biographies:
Hope Benavides has been teaching at Hayes for five years.
Having previously taught Spanish and English as a Second
Language, she is starting her second year of teaching seventh
grade Language Arts. Mrs. Benavides grew up in Lexington and
graduated from Bryan Station High School. She earned both her
undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of
Kentucky----GO BIG BLUE!! Mrs. Benavides taught at Jessie Clark
Middle School for four years with Mrs. Vanzant before coming to
Hayes.
Mrs. Benavides is married and has three sons---one in elementary
school, one in middle school, and one starting high school. She
also has a two year old cat named Gracie Jane. She loves to
cook and also enjoys working outside in the yard. Mrs.
Benavides has traveled to Honduras several times to serve as an
interpreter for missionary groups from her church, and has
organized and led student tours to Mexico. She is looking
forward to an awesome year with the Jaguars!
Teresa Foster began her
teaching career in Georgia. She graduated from the University
of Georgia in Athens with a BS degree in middle grades math and
science, and is currently attending Eastern Kentucky University
Graduate School. She has taught both math and science to 7th
graders and 8th graders. The 2009-2010 school year
will be her 14th year of teaching middle school, and
her 3rd year at EJ Hayes Middle School.
Ms.
Foster grew up in Richmond, Kentucky and graduated from Model
Lab School, she returned to Kentucky in 2007 after living in
Atlanta, Georgia for 25 years. She has two sons, Robert and
Brad. Robert in attending EKU and will graduate in the spring
of 2010. Brad is living in Athens, Georgia and attending
school. Ms Foster lives in Richmond where she enjoys working on
her old house, running and swimming. In the fall she loves to
watch the Dawgs play football-GO DAWGS!!
Annie Hohl
is starting her fifth year of teaching at Edythe J.
Hayes Middle. She teaches seventh grade language arts for the
best team in the school – the Jaguars! Also, she is one of two
academic team coaches and organizes school participation in
Fayette County’s Relay For Life. Before coming to Hayes, she
graduated from the University of Kentucky (UK) with a Bachelor
of Arts degree in middle school education. While at UK, she was
a member of the Wildcat Marching Band color guard and a clarinet
player in the pep band. You can’t beat free tickets to both
football and basketball games. Music plays a big role in her
classroom. If you walk down the 7A hallway on UK game day, you
can expect to hear the UK fight song!
While she is a true blue fan, she was born and raised in
Gahanna, Ohio – Go BUCKS! Since living in Kentucky, she has
lived in Lancaster, Lawrenceburg, and Lexington. She graduated
second in her class from Anderson County High School (ACHS).
Two of her four siblings (three sisters and one brother) also
graduated from ACHS. An interesting fact to know is that Annie
and her three sisters all have the same first name: Mary! Other
than being around her family and friends, she enjoys traveling,
reading, writing, playing and watching sports, volunteering, and
being outdoors. Currently, Annie has a published poem and is
writing a children’s book for possible publication.
Jeorgette Vanzant
has been teaching science
with Fayette County Public School since 1988. She has been with EJ
Hayes since it opened in 2004. She loves frogs… just see her room with all the frogs!!!
Previous to coming to Hayes Middle, she taught at Jessie Clark Middle
where she was the girls track coach for 13 years. A little unknown
fact… she also was the only paid female assistant football coach
from 1991-1995 in Fayette County for Jessie Clark. In that time her
track team won 5 back to back county girls track championships and 1
football championship. She is a huge sports nut!!!! She is also a
die-hard Cubs fan!!
She grew up in Muncie, Indiana and graduated from Delta High School
in 1982. In 1987 she graduated from David Letterman’s Alma matter,
Ball State University, with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Junior
High/Middle School Education in Science and Social Studies. After
moving to Kentucky in 1988 she began her Master’s Degree program at
Eastern University majoring in Middle School Curriculum &
Development. She received that degree in 1992. Currently she has 9
hours towards her rank 1 at the University of Kentucky.
Mrs. Vanzant is married to Marty and they have a 4 legged child (a
Siberian husky) who has beautiful blue eyes, a very furry tail, and
thinks he is human. In the summer you can find her reading,
gardening, cross-stitching, or playing ball with her dog.

School-After-School
Tutoring Program The Carnegie Center offers weekly, one-on-one tutoring for children ages 6 to 16 who are experiencing difficulty in school. For more information or to set up an appointment, contact Johanna Truesdell at 254-4175 or jtruesdell@carnegieliteracy.org. $25 fee for the school year. |
