Where in the World is Owney?

Owney was a traveling dog, a scraggly mutt, who loved to ride the United States mail trains back in the early 1900s.  He supervised the men and mail.  No train ever had an accident when he was on board.

Our very own puppy will be replicating some of the travels of the original "Owney" as we travel across the United States and the world to learn about the 5 strands of Geography.  We will also be participating with Ms. Stamp's kindergarten class with their pup Ollie visiting our school. We can't wait for Ollie to arrive and visit Lexington, Kentucky. We are making plans for his arrival.

Check out Ollie below: find our state and classroom

Watch a movie about Owney on the National Postal Museum website

Owney is pictured below with some of the over 200 tags he collected on his travels across the United States and the World.

We're Soaring to New Heights in 2009-2010!

I am excited to begin another wonderful year at Dixie Magnet Elementary. My classroom is F-2, Third Grade which

includes 24 super students, ready to start the year as we learn about the history of hot air balloons and how they work.!

I hope you will find our web pages helpful with  class events, classroom news and other important class information.  Our instruction will be guided by the Big Four Questions listed below and handed down from our Superintendent.

THE BIG FOUR QUESTIONS

  1. What is it that we expect our students to learn?
  2. How will we know if they have learned it?
  3. What will we do if they haven't learned it?
  4. What will we do if they already know it
