Homework Assignments

   Students are given weekly homework packets that will contain their spelling, reading, and math assignments for the week. We have created a suggested calendar for completion on the prescription coversheet. The packet will go home on Fridays and must be returned one week later on the following Friday. This gives students an entire week to complete the homework and to work at their convenience.

     I  feel this is the best way to  accommodate all student and family schedules. Many families have very hectic work schedules, community service,  and activity schedules. This is our attempt to meet the needs of all families. If ever a conflict arises or an illness, just drop me an email, a note, or a phone call and adjustments will be made. Expectations are high for Dixie Magnet students but we will try to accommodate any special circumstances. Holidays and non-school days often interfere with this schedule and the due dates will be noted on the homework coversheet.

    Homework is meant to reinforce the school day and offer enrichment of what they have learned in class. It also encourages family involvement and interaction, which is vital to our partnership in your child's learning. I often ask students to make outside of class connections and bring objects in from home to enrich our studies and share with others. We create several projects during the school year and at this time homework is amended and it will be explained on that homework prescription coversheet. Engaged children are children that learn and enjoy school and that is my goal!

ART & HUMANITIES TO GO

     Students will also be participating in Art to Go bags in the coming weeks. This is a special activity designed to reinforce our student's participation in the Arts and to help raise their appreciation for and knowledge about the Arts and Humanities. The children and families love these activities and they may be substituted for a homework assignment, simply write Art to Go on the assignment they choose to skip.  These will be issued on a rotating basis and they are due the following Friday, you should see these a couple of times a year!
