Expectations and Grading
Each day when you come
to class I will expect you to:
-
Come to class
prepared. This means that you will have your Science
notebook, a pencil and your bluebook as well as
anything else you plan to use.
-
Be on time
for class.
-
Get seated
and copy the day’s agenda in your bluebook.
-
If there
is homework due, have it ready to be checked.
It is
very important that we use all of our class time wisely.
Therefore, we will have to work together to keep distracting behaviors
and items from wasting any of our time. I’m going to insist on the
following:
-
Don’t
have a conversation with your neighbor during group instruction.
-
Don’t
bring anything with you that might be a “distractor” for yourself or
anyone else.
-
Don’t
eat candy, chips, etc. during class.
-
Don’t
groom yourself during class.
-
Don’t
ask to leave the room during important group instructional time.
(Wait until we’re doing individual work.)
-
Don’t
bother anyone else’s “stuff”.
Grading
I will group your work
into four different categories. These will count for different portions
of your overall grade.
Class
Participation - This will count for 30% of your final grade. You
will earn points for
paying
attention, coming prepared, taking notes, cooperating in your group,
etc.
Class
Work - This will count for 20% of your final grade. This category
includes papers
and
activities that we complete and turn in during class time. Class Work
that is missed due to an
excused
absence must be made up within the same number of days as the absence.
Homework
- This will count for 20% of your final grade. It includes work that you
do
outside of
class. Homework that is not turned in on the due date will be penalized
by 10% if turned
in by the
next class period. If it is turned in after the next class period it
will be given one-half of the
original
points possible. Assignments that are over two weeks old can not be made
up.
Tests &
Quizzes - This will count for 30% of your final grade. Tests and
quizzes will
usually
be announced a few days ahead of time. If a student is absent on the day
of a test, he/she
should be
prepared to take it on the day that they return to school. If a student
is absent on the day
before a
test he/she will have one class period to review materials before making
up the test.
