"MOOving"
Into 3rd Grade
August, 2009
Dear
Liberty Parent/Guardian:
I look
forward to the opportunity of working with your child and you
this year. There will be many new learning experiences and
challenges. My door is always open to you. Please
let me know of any concerns you may have throughout the year.
SUPPLY
LIST FOR 3rd GRADE: Here is our supply lists for the
2008-2009 school year. Please email me with any questions
regarding the supply list.
Supply List
DRESS
CODE: Liberty will not have a specific dress code but there
is appropriate attire we except the students to where.
Please email me with any questions about the dress code.
Dress Code
CURRICULUM:
Our literature based program will expose your child to many
wonderful children's books and authors. We will integrate
these books with all of the other subject areas. We will
be flexible grouping the students for reading and math.
This allows us to meet the child at their point of need to
insure direct explicit instruction.
DAILY
WORK: Your child will bring home their daily work each
day. Please continue to keep up with the paperwork that
comes home in their backpacks. There could be notes from
me, notes from the office, etc.
HOMEWORK:
Homework will be sent home weekly.
The students will have a homework
packet sent home every Monday and it will be due the last day of
the week usually Fridays. Included will be their spelling
words, reading log, reading comprehension and math homework.
Please make sure that you and your child are keeping up with
your homework throughout the week. Let me know if there
are any issues or concerns with homework.
CLASSROOM
DISCIPLINE: Our classroom environment is a positive
one. We will be using reteaches this year rather then
pulling tickets which most families are familiar with. I
believe that just punishing the behavior won't change it so I
will be reteaching the student the expectations and rules of the
classroom and what they chose to do wrong during their quality
time. If you have any questions please contact me and I
will be happy to speak to you about these.
CONFERENCES:
Afternoons are available for conference, upon arrangement.
A 24 hour notice is required if at all possible.
LUNCH:
Our daily lunch is from 11:10 - 12:00. Please feel free to
join your child at lunch. You will need to sign in at the
office and then meet us in the cafeteria.
DISMISSAL:
Our dismissal takes place at 2:35pm. If your child
needs to go home a different way then normal I need to have a
very specific note of the change, otherwise I will send he/she
home like they usually do.
ABSENCE: If
your child is absent we need to have a note within three days
for it not to be considered unexcused.
TARDINESS:
Students are expected to be in their seats when the 7:45am
bell rings. It is very important for your child to be
punctual in the morning in order not to miss announcements and
lessons. Excessive tardiness will be reported to the
office.
PHYSICAL
EDUCATION: Your child should wear appropriate clothes and
tennis shoes on P.E. days. They will recieve a grade of a
0 if they do not have on the appropriate shoes.
CELEBRATIONS:
If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday, please
notify me (Mrs. Hurst) at least one day in advance. You may
drop off treats with your child in the morning or at the office
before lunch. Only send in treats that are individually
wrapped and can be easily passed out by your child. Please
DO NOT send in whole cakes!
**Every
effort will be made to keep you informed of your child's
progress. With your support, help, and cooperation we will
have a wonderful year.**
Sincerely
Yours,
Mrs. Hurst, 3rd Grade Teacher
