Regular Geometry Syllabus
Mr. Weaver
2008-2009

Textbook:
McDougal-Littell, "Geometry"

Materials:
Students must bring pencils, a 3-ring notebook, paper, a calculator, and their textbook to class each day.  For some lessons, students will need a compass, a protractor, and a straight edge (ruler).  While a simple four function calculator would be sufficient most of the time, a scientific calculator with trigonometric functions (TI-34 for example) will be useful later in this course.  A graphing calculator such as the TI-83 or TI-84 is not necessary for this course.

Grading Policy:
All grades are divided up in four categories, Tests, Quizzes, Homework, and Flashbacks.  Tests count as 40%, Quizzes count as 25%, Homework count as 25%, and Flashbacks counts as 10%.  The Test category will include exams given at the end of each chapter and the final semester exam.  The Quiz category will include announced and un-announced quizzes.

Homework Policy:
Homework is a critical part of this course and will be assigned regularly.  Students are expected to use the examples and practice problems from their class notes as well as example problems in the textbook to complete the assignments.

Warm-up Problem Policy:
On most days, we will begin the class with a few review problems.  These will come from material previously taught in this course or from material learned in earlier math courses.  They will be referred to as Flashbacks.

Absentee Policy:
Students who are absent should check the bulletin for missed assignments or check my webpage on the Lafayette website.  If you are absent for a test, then you need to schedule a time to make it up after school.  If you miss a review day, then you will be required to take the test with the rest of the class, if you are present on the test day.  If you skip a test day, then you will receive a zero percent for that test.

Extra Credit Policy:
You may earn extra credit if your average in the class is 100%.  If you do not have 100, then do not ask for extra credit.

Test Re-take Policy:
If you score below 78% on a test, then you may retake the test.  The highest score that you can make on a retake test is 78%.  If you score below 78% on the retake test, then that is the score that will be recorded for that test.   For example, if your retake test score is 98%, then you will receive 78% in the gradebook for that test.  If you score less than 78% on the retake test (let's say 59%), then your recorded score will be 59%.
