He had warned her about the book. Now it was too late. She had left it open as she drifted into sleep, on the night of the new moon, against his instructions. Now, the Vines of Medusa were creeping out, seeking the next host for their master, trapped in the book. The vines had steadily curled their tendrils around her arms and legs. A smaller vine was questing for her neck and accidentally tapped her face. She woke immediately, staring at her captor “Aiiiii-“
It had been several days since Maisy had come to work. John decided to come to see if she was okay. He walked over to her house casually, though inside he was bubbling with fear. He knocked at the door, yet no one came. He let himself in, using the key Maisy had given him. Hmmm, he thought, no one here. He walked up to her room, expecting to see her coughing in bed with a bowl of soup. But, her room was a jungle! Strange, creepy vines clung to every available space. The only thing that lay untouched was a book, a book lying open on her bed. As he was about to touch the book a swirling green mist started to erupt from the book. A flash of blinding light, and standing in the fog was a woman, covered in green scales and with snakes for hair. John grabbed his lighter from its pocket and set fire to the vines.
