The Seven Chairs

By: Bay, 6th grade

“It is time to say the grace.” Mother Melanie announced, and the seven nuns at the large, wooden table scooted their heavy, old chairs forward, and clasped their hands together tightly, their eyes closed.

“Thank the Lord for our friends, family; and our life. Thank Him for the wonderful journey we are about to embark upon. Amen.” “Amen.”, chorused the others at the huge table. Then, they all slowly began to float into the air, their feet dangling freely beneath the rungs of their chairs. Then, quick as a flash, they flew off, each in their own separate directions.

The first chair, containing Maria Munoz, went to Mexico.

To Canada went Anna Anderson, in the second chair.

The third chair, which held Orla O’Brian, went to Ireland.

Cena Carmichaels went to Egypt in the fourth chair.

The fifth chair went to France, with Bijou Baxter in tow.

The sixth chair flew off to Russia, along with Halina Henderson.

And the final chair contained Sally Sanders, who went to the United States.

The chairs each returned without any nuns seated on them, and re-seated themselves at the large, wooden table where the journey had begun. Mother Melanie smiled. The rest of the nuns would be very happy in their new homes. She was fine with the home she had now. She walked up to her small bedroom, and prepared for bed. Yes, she was content with where she was now. She leaned over, and with one breath, blew the candle out.
