The Adventure of a Lifetime

By: Becca, 6th Grade

“But I don’t want to go on this stupid trip!! The only reason that I’m going is because you are making me! So let’s just get this stupid vacation over with!!!” Hi. My name is Lorelai. It is summer vacation right now. We only have a few weeks of summer though. And I want to go to this cool party that the hottest boy in school is having. But my mother is making me go to the most stupid vacation in the world.

Even though the vacation will be in Hawaii. I don’t want to go. We will be stuck in family mode for the whole week. But all I want to do is go to the party, come home, and then go to sleep until noon the next day. Actually, that’s what I want to do for the whole summer vacation. Not go and be stuck in the hot summer day for a whole week with my little brother and older sister. My mother is going to make me be stuck in the same room as my younger brother and older sister. The worst part is, is that my sister is going to bring a friend along. So I will have to listen to giggling all night long.

“LORELAI!! Are you ready to go???? We don’t want to miss the plane!” I just finished packing up all my stuff when my sister, Sydney, walks in the room wearing a very short dress and flip-flops. I couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing. My mother wouldn’t let Sydney walk out of the house wearing that. I ran downstairs without even saying good morning to her.

“MOM!!! MOM!!! Do you see what your older daughter is trying to wear out of the house????” Then it hit me, like a boulder hitting the side of the pavement down in the Rocky Mountains. I couldn’t believe it. My own mother was wearing the same thing as Sydney. A short dress with Hawaiian flowers on it.  What is my mother trying to prove? That she still looks young even with 3 children. But my mother is still with my father. And they get along just fine. EWW!!! They won’t. They couldn’t. I don’t event want to know.

“Let’s get this vacation over with.” I was about to walk out the door when something hit the back of my head. I turned around and saw a dress on the floor. When I looked up the whole family was wearing the same thing. Except my dad and younger brother were wearing Hawaiian t-shirts.

“Go ahead honey. You need to go and put that on. This way when we get out of the rented car, all of us can match like a normal, usual, family” I couldn’t argue with that speech. It was really powerful….NOT!!!! I slugged into the bathroom to try on the dress. When I walked out, I felt like a girl at her first dance. All poofy and girly. UGH!! I hate being girly. Or at least wearing a stupid dress. Why me???

          “Aww. Sweetie you look adorable!”

“I don’t want to look adorable. I want to look like a normal kid would look when going on vacation. Wearing shorts and a tank top. That is my idea of a perfect vacation. And also sitting by the pool with a smoothie in my hand.” I was so angry that they had made me wear this junk. I didn’t want to embarrass myself by matching my family. And they should know that by now. I mean come on. They have lived with me for 13 years now. I am old enough to make my own decisions.

“Well. Let’s get this show on the road.” My dad was ready to go. I grabbed my suitcases and headed out the door. I really didn’t want to have to go back to the bathroom and change out of this poofy girly thing that I’m wearing on my body. I just wanted to get this vacation over with. As soon as possible.

“Aloha!!!!” Three people greeted us with leas in their hands. Right then I knew, we were in Hawaii. My brother and sister were practically leaping out of their seats when they saw the palm trees and oceans. I on the other hand, was just sitting as bored as ever not even trying to do anything. I was wanted to go home and sleep for another 3 hours. Or at least go to the hotel room and sleep. But I knew better. That was not possible.

“Grab your bags everyone. Time to go and put everything away.” Right then and there I leaped out of my seat. Being the first one out. I grabbed my luggage and started to head to the hotel room. My sister then came out second followed by her best friend, Chelsea. Then came my younger brother, Josh. Then came my mom and dad.

I was the first one to get to the check-in desk. The only reason though was so I could get the card and start running to the room. But that didn’t happen. What really happened was that Josh pushed me to the ground, causing all of my luggage to tip on top of me. Sydney and Chelsea just laughed at me and walked over me. That was typical of them though. I wouldn’t expect anything less of them. Mom and dad didn’t notice me though. They were to happy about the vacation. All they did was walk on the other side of me. I had to yell for their attention. Finally after a few minutes, they noticed and helped me up.

“Who did this to you?” Now mom was so concerned with her middle daughter that she had dad carry her luggage to the check-in desk and walked along side with me.

“It was Josh. He pushed me over so that he could be the first one to the desk. I was just walking along all nice and all then he just pushed me over for no reason at all.”

“Now Lorelai. You know that Josh would never do anything like that.” After that, Josh kept giving me this look. And that look tells me that this won’t be over with. At all.

The next day was horrible. Everywhere we went, mom had to take a family photo to put in the photo album that we don’t have. Then when we went out to lunch, Josh started to fling his food at me. And guess who got blamed, me. Of course. Everything is always blamed on me. Even when mom knows plain good that I wouldn’t do anything that stupid. But she always blames it on me so that she won’t have to punish her little baby. Josh the evil canival.

The next day we went down to the beach. My sister was talking to her friend the whole time so I was bored out of my mind. Then this cute boy came up to me and asked me if I wanted to go to a party tonight with me. I knew that this was a bad idea. I kept telling him that but he wouldn’t listen to me. So I had to say yes.

That night I put on my best dress that was in my suitcase. It was a blue-purple mini. When I was about to walk out of the door, mom stopped me.

“Just where do you think you’re going?” Mom had that evil look on her face. It was not a good look.

“I’m going out to a party. Where else would I be going?” I was not pleased with what I just said to her.

“Okay go ahead.” I was shocked with what I just heard.

“Go ahead. I want you to tell all of your friends the good news. WE’RE MOVING TO HAWAII!” Mom hugged me so happy.

I went to the party so happy. My ‘date’ was so happy for me that he asked me out again. I was never so happy in my life. This was a great adventure. And I was sure that it would continue forever!!!

…….The End…….
