The Mysterious Mystery at Black Lagoon By: Becca, 6th grade
One morning and might I add that it was a very foggy morning at Black Lagoon, there were three children sitting at an old broken down picnic table. The table was rotten and half of the table was broken down and had old carvings from some of the people that had once been there before the year 2000. The three children were Anna, who was 16; Alexis, who was 13; and Bryan, who was 7. These children were brothers and sisters. They lived in a big Victorian house on a hill. Every day they would walk down to that picnic table and just sit there and talk. Then occasionally they would take their dog down there and just play fetch with him and enjoy the scenery. All except the Black Lagoon. “Just what do you think you’re doing?” That was Alexis. She was standing right behind Bryan who was just about to put his right foot in the Black Lagoon when she caught him. “Nothing. I just wanted to feel what it was like. There’s not going to be any harm if you just let me feel it!!!!” No one has ever heard Bryan talk like that. And no one ever wanted to hear him. Especially with the tone of voice that he was currently using. “Look. I know that you think that you are all-grown up now because you are going to go into the 3rd grade next year. But you cannot. And I repeat NOT! Talk to your sister like that.” No one ever knew that Anna could talk so strongly. But she was the oldest one in the family. Once Anna turned around, Bryan already had his whole foot in the lagoon. A few hours later, the three children were upstairs and in there PJs. Bryan was in his bed almost asleep when you hear this bang coming from downstairs. The whole kitchen was burned with their mother on the floor and nothing else. You could see the stove was burning a few minutes before. “What happened down here?” There standing halfway down the stairs were Anna, in her nightgown, and Alexis, who was wearing PJ pants and a t-shirt with her robe on. Anna had her hair in curlers. And Alexis had her hair in a ponytail. “I….I…I don’t know. First I hear this bang and I rush down here and mom is on the floor lying just like she is right now.” All three children were standing by their mother not believing what they just saw. A few hours later, they are standing in the same position that they were just a couple of hours later. But this time they were fully dressed and their hair all fixed up. They were standing their watching the detectives try to figure this out. They hadn’t seen anything the night before. All they saw was their mother lying on the floor. But no cooking pots or evidence about what had happened. “Have you kids seen anything about what happened here last night?” This was one of the detectives. He was tall and wasn’t dressed like what they had read in one of their old mystery books. All the kids could stare at was the fact that he wore a dark brown hat when it was more than 180 degrees inside the house from the hot smoke. This was very unusual to the children The next day the children went down to the Black Lagoon. But it wasn’t the same to them. They missed the call that their mother used to use when it was time for dinner. They missed the times when their mother would come down to the Black Lagoon and read books to them. But that was when they were really little. Most of all, they missed when they would all come down to the lagoon at night and they would all watch the stars. And on some nights they would watch the meteor showers and have the time of their lives. “What do you think you’re doing? Do we have do repeat this over again?” Anna was standing right beside Bryan and he was standing there with his foot in the lagoon for the second time. “Look. I just want to repeat the feeling that I had the day that I first tried it.” Bryan had his whole foot in the Black Lagoon. And there was this whole rush of wind over him and it was not the good kind of wind. The good kind of wind is the wind that helps you cool down on a hot summer day. This wind was very cold and chilly and sent goose bumps all up and down the children’s’ arms. That night there was a sudden change in the way the house hold ran. They heard footsteps in the house. Bryan and Alexis were the first ones downstairs. They saw a woman figure in the kitchen. And they thought that this woman looked very familiar. Then she turned around and it was their mother with a neck brace around her neck. And they thought that she had died. “Hey kids. Do you want some breakfast?” Their mother was standing there in front of their faces looking as normal as ever. And she had a frying pan in her hand with pancakes and in the other hand she had had two plates stacked upon each other. “Mom! Your okay!!” Anna was running downstairs in her curlers and in her robe. She was so happy to see her mother. She ran over to her and started hugging her. Bryan and Alexis were still in shock that their mother was okay. That they couldn’t speak. This was the happiest day of their lives. “Yes. The doctor said that I would have to be careful next time but I could still go around normal like I used to.” Their mother then set out breakfast and they all had breakfast like a normal family. After breakfast the children went down to the Black Lagoon. They stared at it and new that their lives would never be the same again. But they knew that it was as good as ever. And never to put their feet in it ever again. They didn’t know what would happen next. And they were sure that they never wanted to find out what would happen. That was for sure!
