The Four Seasons

The wind slowly rustled the bronze colors above my head. The sounds of today were quiet, but those that I had heard were savored. The season of that which I had waited for at had last come. And yet, the time of which it had arrived was not what I had expected. The seasons were cruel to many, but I looked forward to them all. They just always have a few surprises up their sleeves.

Summer, winter, spring, and fall. They were always necessary, but people felt as if some of them could not be dealt with. Though it was true that some would rather enjoy the sunny and warming rays of the sun during the hot time, or the cold white powder of the late year, all four seasons were necessary. It may be hard to imagine this, but it is true.

What would happen if one season was gone and the other remained? Well, many things could be true. If summer was not here, then I can easily say that most of the life would not be affected. But, it is the small differences that matter. Plants and animals that depended on the extra heat and light that is found in the months of summer would be clinging on to survival.

What would happen if there was no more winter? The many species that take this time to rest would not have it. The plants that require this time to remain dormant and prepare themselves for the spring months would not be able to do this with the absence of the cold.

What would happen if there was no spring? The plants and animals that did hibernate would find themselves submerged in heat when they tried to reemerge into this world. For it is spring, the season of renewal, that gives life the chance to start anew. It is in this season that the most is made of reproduction. Flowers of all kinds blossom during these months. Birds, cats, squirrels, and all make the most of this time. It is the perfect heat of the sun for which the animals can be safe from the waves that the summer brings later.

What would happen if there was no fall? Why, without fall, many things would fall. Fall is the season of preparation. Fall may seem to be the days that cool down and lead to a time of rest, but the days leading up to the rest are full of hustle and bustle. Animals all over are making preparations for this season. If there was no fall, there would be an immediate jump from hot to cold. This would mean no chance to prepare food for those that dared to survive the harsh winters.

Why, if there was no fall, the bears that needed to eat would not be able to gain the fat that warmed them during the winters in which they hibernate. The birds and squirrels that remained in the colder parts of the world would not know how to find food in the sudden change. Life would not be the same for the nature of this world that remains so fragile.

So, though you may find yourself clinging to one season in favor of another, don’t let that make yourself ignorant to the others of which you turn your nose away from. Yes, they may all be different, but it is these differences that we depend on. Now you see the importance of all the seasons and why we need them. Don’t ridicule another for saying that opposes your season, for it is as important as what you find in yours.
