Preface
The room was the most awkward thing That Maggie had ever seen. It was a mystery that was yet to be solved
Chapter 1: Michigan
Dear Uncle Bill, I am excited to go to your cottage over this summer. Since I was a little girl I had been dreaming of going to a mansion, and living with my Uncle in one will be amazing. Can’t wait! Love, Maggie Knight.
Hello, I am Maggie Knight the great detective, well not really but I would love to be. I live with my mother only because my mom and dad got divorced last year. This summer I am going to go to my Uncle Bill’s house. I love my Uncle Bill so much. He is my mom’s older brother. He lives on Lake Michigan. He lives with his wife Sophie and there dog Mollie. I am fully packed and ready to go. Tomorrow is the day we drive up. Well, I better get some rest for tomorrow if I want to be fresh in the morning. In the morning we packed my bags into the car and were on our way to my Uncle Bill’s. We live on the lake too but we live in lower Michigan and my Uncle Bill lives in upper Michigan. The drive was at least four hours long. It was really boring because my mom was so sad that I was leaving that she would look at me and start to cry so talking to her was out of the question. When we got to my Uncle Bills it was sunny and bright. It was the perfect day to go on the lake. My mom took me to the door and when my aunt Sophie answered it she said “Hello there young lady! Hello Lisa!” Lisa is my mother’s name. My Aunt brought us into the house and the house was magnificent! I was all old and historic. The walls were all covered with brilliant pictures of Victorian woman and men. There was tapestry hung onto the wall and chandeliers that sparkled like crystals in the cave. The floors were all hardwood with beautiful rugs with tassels on the ends of them. The rugs were all placed in the living, dinning, and family rooms. In the middle of the foyer stood my Uncle Bill. “Hello everyone and welcome to Mystery Manor!” he said. I ran up to him and started to bounce up and down. As I bounced up and down I said to my Uncle Bill “why is the mansion called Mystery Mansion? Huh, huh, huh?!” I said. As I said it my Aunt Sophie frowned. “Well,” he said “that’s only for me to know and you to find out” as he said that he pointed to me. At that moment I had the rush of excitement at that moment and I knew something but I didn’t know what would dramatically chance my life and soon
Chapter 2: The room
My Aunt Sophie showed me my room and then left me alone to settle in. When I knew that my Aunt was downstairs I poked my out of the room just to make sure that she was then I went to look through the house. What my Uncle had said had made me so curious that I went to explore the second floor. I couldn’t explore the first story because my Aunt and Uncle were both downstairs. As I looked around I found nothing interesting just libraries and offices and bedrooms. Then all of a sudden I heard footsteps and I knew whose they were, they were my Uncle Bill’s. I suddenly started to sweat and knew I had to do something so I ran in the room across the hall and closed the door tight. I leaned against the door and let out a big sigh of relief. I turned on the light and still couldn’t see anything so I turned on another light and that one flickered and then turned on and then light after light turned on leading through a tunnel. I ran as fast as I could through the tunnel and at the very end there was a door that was closed tight. I opened it and with a creek it easily slid open I turned on a light and that’s when I saw it the gray room. The room was covered with gray. No, it wasn’t just paint on all the toys and furniture was gray. This was just the beginning of the mystery of the gray room.
That evening I asked my Uncle this “Hey Uncle Bill!” I said “Yes darling?” “Why is that one room all covered in gray?” I said. At that moment I know I had touched a subject I wasn’t supposed to touch. He swallowed hard and then answered “Well I’m going to tell you the truth. That room is why the mansion is called Mystery Mansion. Also that room has been that way since we moved in. I don’t know how the room got that way. For the last few days there I avoided the room but then on the last day a snuck a peek at the room just before I left. I didn’t figure the mystery out and I guess that I never would. But, until I do; this is Maggie Knight signing off.
