May – Newsletter

Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe May is already here! I have enjoyed this year with the students so much! We will be focusing on editing skills, personal narratives, and open responses for writing, and continue to work on comprehension skills such as summarizing, author studies, fluency, and question answer relationships for reading. We are learning about multiplication/division for math and will also look at tangrams soon. In social studies we are beginning a unit on economics. Please enforce how important it is for your child to try his/her best and complete all work. Also, each child should be reading twenty minutes every night and should have a reading log assignment on Monday-Thursday that needs to be signed and returned.
Reminder!
Please sign and return all behavior notes home the following day. We are really working on showing responsible and respectful behavior in the classroom. Your child will have homework every Monday-Thursday, so please check your child's homework folder on these nights. I have recently posted my website where you can keep up to date on word wall words, our monthly newsletter, our daily schedule, and educational links. Just go to the Linlee website: linlee.fcps.net and click on “Staff Directory” and then "Third Grade". Scroll down until you find my name, and then double click on “web” by my name. This will lead you to my website. You may e-mail me at kelly.harrod@fayette.kyschools.us if you have any questions, concerns, or information you need to tell me concerning your child. The UK Steel Drum Band will be visiting on Tuesday, May 6 and students were asked to send in $3.00 to cover the cost. Field Day for grades 3-5 will be on Thursday, May 15. Look for more information to be sent home soon about Field Day. Students who have earned the trip to the Legends Game will go to the game on Wednesday, May 14 and will need to send in $10.00. We will be taking a field trip to the Louisville Zoo on Friday, May 16 which costs $15.00. Please make sure that all permission slips and money are sent in as soon as possible. Open House for Linlee will be from 3-5pm on Sunday, May 18. The Closing Ceremony for Linlee will be Thursday, May 29 from 5-7pm. There will be no school on Tuesday, May 20 due to Election Day and no school on Monday, May 26 due to Memorial Day. The last day of classes for students is Friday, May 30.
I have enjoyed working with each of you this year, and appreciate your dedication to your child's education. The students have grown this year in so many ways, and I am so proud of them! They are all bright and wonderful children, and I am lucky to have had the opportunity to have them in class.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Harrod
