Goals/Objectives: Unit 1: Properties and Changes of Matter Unit 2: Frictional Forces Unit 3: Evolution of Landforms Unit 4: Sun-Earth-Moon Systems Unit 5: Cellular Basis of Life Unit 6: Ecosystems (Change over Time) Text: Scott Foresman Science The Diamond Edition Online student edition: Supplies: 1. One inch - three ring binder (with pockets) that stays in the classroom and is used as a journal and storage for all graded papers. Inside the binder should be a zipper pouch to contain either spare pencils or pencil lead, a pencil eraser and a small pencil sharpener. Students will also need colored pencils and dry erase markers with eraser in the pouch. 2. One packet of page protectors. 3. One pack of lined writing paper for the journal. 4. A one time fee of Five ( $5.00 ) dollars that covers the use of consumable and non-consumable science equipment. (A letter of explanation will be given to each student the first week of school. The fee is to be paid during the first two weeks of school.) Grading: The grading and homework policies at Edythe J. Hayes Middle are designed to provide accurate assignment of grades with the intent to demonstrate a clear relationship between student performance and student learning. All parents/guardians and students are asked to sign the homework policy at the beginning of the year. Grading Scale A 92 – 100 B 91 – 83 C 82 – 74 D 73 – 65 F 64 and below Make-up work policy when absent: · It is the responsibility of the student to get make-up work from each teacher. Students shall be allowed the same number of days to complete the make-up work, as they were absent, plus one (1). Homework Guidelines: · All work is due the following day unless an extended time is given by the teacher. Classroom Expectations: ? Students should be in the classroom and seated with all of their classroom materials before the bell rings. ? Students should not leave their seat or talk without first obtaining the teacher’s permission. ? Students will maintain a science binder in proper order as required by the teacher. The science binder should stay in the classroom unless the student is taking it home to study or complete. ? Students should use proper manners and remain on task at all times.
