Forecasting Weather

Meteorologist are the ones that predict the weather on the news.  Some things that help them forecast the weather  are records of the weather in the past to help to predict the weather in the future. They look for patterns in the weather and changes over time.  Meteorologists can forecast the weather only for a few days at a time.  Forecasts can include ranges of temperature, chances of rain, cloudiness , sleet, hail or snow .  They can also include warnings of strong winds , floods or severe air pollution.  Meteorologists measure the temperature of , water, ground and air.  One thing that helps meteorologists to predict the weather is to wind speed , winds direction, and precipitation.  Meteorologists check to see if warm or cold fronts are coming  into an area to help predict the weather, because when fronts move in it changes the weather pattern.    Meteorologists rely on reports from storm spotters( those are people that watch storms) to help warn and predict the weather.  All those things help predict the weather.

Meteorologists

Meteorologist job is to predict weather and to study the changes in weather.  Lots of times you see meteorologists on the news to predict and warn you about the weather.  Did you know that Benjamin Franklin was one of the first to study weather in North America? Now there are over 2,150 that study weather, and we have a lot more tools.  The word meteorologist comes from a book title by an  ancient Greek philosopher, Aristotle the title was Meteorological. Some Meteorologist job is when severe weather conditions will accrue they work with the Government and public to make a plan when the disaster hits.  Meteorologist don't just forecast the weather for us they also do it for pilots and sailors in return they give meteorologists reports on what is going on where they

are at.  Most meteorologists get a lot of there information from weather stations, satellite photographs and twice daily weather balloons.

To be a Meteorologist you must have a Bachelor of Science degree many years of math, and physical Science. There are variety of jobs you can get instead of just on the news, there are data collectors, some work for airlines and power companies.  Meteorologist sure do a lot!

Tools

There are different tools that meteorologists need to help them to predict the weather.  Meteorologists us an Aneroid barometer that looks like a clock but it only has one hand.  All barometers measure the pressure of the air masses, just in different ways.  A mercury barometer is a long tube that has mercury in it.  There are many other kinds of barometers too. Another tool that meteorologist use is a weather vain witch has long rods that point in all the cardinal directions on the top there is a design that turns in the direction that the wind is blowing in.  Meteorologists also send up weather balloons twice a day that carries tools such as a barometer and thermometers to see what the weather is like in a higher area.  Thermometers measure the temperature of the surrounding area.  There are also rain gages that measure the amount of rain.  An anemometer is another tool that meteorologists use to measure the speed of the wind.  Satellites, computers, and weather maps help meteorologists to predict the weather and study the weather.   Meteorologists have a lot of tools to help them study the weather.
