Program Eligibility

Children who meet the following are eligible for Early Start:

  • Resident of Fayette County

  • Four (4) years old before October1

  • Meet the income guidelines for federal free lunch

Or

  • Three(3) or Four (4) years-old (or becomes five(5) after October1) and has an identified special need

  • Children with special needs may only be admitted to the program upon approval of the Admissions and Release Committee (ARC)

Related and Support Services

The following support services will be provided for children with identified special needs as determined by evaluations and recommendations of the Admission and Release Committee (ARC):

  • Speech and Language Therapy

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Physical Therapy

  • Visual Impairment Services

Meet the Teacher

Mrs. Mudd is the KERA Preschool teacher at Dixie Elementary.  She has been at Dixie since 1991.

She has a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development and Family Studies from Eastern Kentucky University as well as a Montessori  certification . 

General Information

The Early Start program at Dixie is in session 5 half days a week, except for Professional Development , Records/Conference days and home visit days.

There are two sessions at Dixie.  The morning session  is from 7:45 to 10:45 and the afternoon session is from 11:35 to 2:35

Registration

Parents may register for the Early Start Program in the Spring and Summer,  prior to the eligible school year.  You may register at the school or at It's A                                                              bout Kids Support Services Office.  When going to register, you will need to bring the child's state birth certificate, social security card, immunization certificate, school physical , eye exam certificate and proof of income.
