August/September Newsletter

A Note from Mrs. Mudd

We are off to a great start!!! We are so excited about the school year!!

Please look through your child’s yellow folder in their back pack each day but especially on Friday. On Friday’s you will find important papers and a newsletter. We have already been sending home forms for you to fill out and return. Thanks to all for returning these.

This week at school we began learning the rules and routine in the classroom, the names of materials in our room as well as beginning social skills (how to ask for help, how to take turns, how to wait for a turn, etc). We even practiced our first Fire drill as well as Earthquake drill. So far the children have been introduced to the math center, language center, library, manipulatives, writing center, blocks, music, practical life, dramatic play, art and woodworking.

Buster the Safety bus came to talk with our morning class about bus safety. He will come back in a couple of weeks to talk with our afternoon class. Please see the letter about this.

Important Dates

September 1st –No School- Labor Day

September 5th-Grandparents Day-Grandparents are invited to come to school. The morning class will have time with their grandparents for Breakfast from 7:45 to 8:30. The afternoon class with have time with their grandparents for Lunch from 11:40 to 12:10. Please see attached note.

September 5th-Scholatic Book orders are due-please see attached directions and order

September 16th Family Story Time-AM class 10:00 PM class 11:35 *mark your calendar

September 23rd Kentucky Kids Day

September 24th No School for Early Start- we will be visiting with the families who have not had their first Home visit yet as well as preparing the classroom for upcoming activities.

September 25th No School for Early Start/Early Start Open House-On this day Early Start will be having an Open House during the day. The Morning class will have their Open House from 7:45 to 10:45 and the afternoon class will be having their Open House from 11:35 to 2:35. Parents are invited to come to school that day with their child. During your child’s class time, they will be able to show you what they have been doing at school

September 26th No School/Records day

September 1st thru October 15th Magnet Applications are now being accepted

Dixie is a magnet school in Fayette County. That means that if you do not live in the Dixie school district then you can apply to send your child to Dixie. If you do not live in the Dixie district and your child will be of Kindergarten age for the 2009-2010 school year and you want them to attend Dixie, you need to fill out an application on line at www.fcps.net. If you have other children who already attend Dixie you need to apply for their siblings. If you need help or have any questions with this please ask.

September 2-12 All About Me

    • During these weeks the children will discover what makes us special, that we are alike and different and we will learn to communicate our name (first/last), age and gender. We will also be covering the following Early Childhood Standards and Creative Curriculum Goals listed below.

    • During these weeks the children will discover the outside through science and books. One of our feature books will be It Looked like Spilt Milk which will be this months Family Story time book. We will also be covering the following Early Childhood Standards and Creative Curriculum Goals listed below.
