SPELLING WORDS
Our weekly spelling lists are now online!
FLEXIBLE GROUPING
One effective method of differentiating instruction is the use of flexible grouping. Many of our teams will be using this strategy to meet students at their point of need in the areas of reading and math. All students will be working on grade level content and standards. Flexible grouping affords students the opportunity to receive instruction at their point of need. Some students may need reteaching and direct/explicit instruction. Others succeed in the structure and pacing of the general curriculum while certain students need acceleration. Most of you have just attended your fall conference so you are aware of your student’s achievement levels. This data will be used to determine initial groupings and drive instruction.
Soon students will be grouped based on data from multiple assessments and classroom performance/ observations from the first trimester. These groups are flexible and students may move between groups based upon their needs.
We are fortunate at Maxwell that teachers on grade level teams collaborate and meet weekly for team meetings. The structure for collaboration, discussions about student progress and team planning are already in place. We look forward to employing this strategy to better meet the needs of our students.
A note to Firefox/Mozilla users. I am still tweaking the code and you may see some minor irregularities in the display of the page. The biggest issue is being able to read the link buttons above. The links still work, but I know you can't read the text. I am working on this. You can either use Internet Explorer temporarily, or use the text links below. I apologize for the inconvenience. I hope to have this issue fixed shortly.
