Although any graphing calculator will do, I highly recommend purchasing a Texas Instruments TI-84+, TI-84+ Silver Edition, or TI-Nspire graphing calculator. These calculators are used by all math teachers here at Tates Creek High School, and they are the predominant calculators used at all high schools in Fayette County. For students in AP Calculus I (AB) a TI-89 is acceptable but not necessary. The TI-83+ and TI-84+ graphing calculators will serve them fine. For students in IB a TI-89 is NOT permitted by the IBO. IB students will want to stick with an 83+ or an 84+.

**The TI-Nspire is the most
recently released Texas Instruments graphing calculator. Not only does the
TI-Nspire have several new capabilities beyond what other graphing
calculators have, it also comes with a TI-84+ face plate, which allows you
to use the TI-Nspire as such or to switch out the face plate and use it as a
TI-84+. It's like getting two graphing calculators in one!

If you choose to purchase another type of Texas Instruments graphing calculator (like a TI-86 or TI-89), please understand that your teacher may or may not be able to help you with it. The instructions given in class will be geared towards the 83, 84, and Nspire family of calculators. (This is of course with exception to the AP Calculus I (AB) class.)
If you choose to purchase another brand of graphing calculator
(such as Casio or Hewlett Packard), again please understand that your teacher
may or may not be able to help you. If purchasing this type of graphing
calculator, it is highly encouraged that you keep with you the instruction
manual.
