Make Up Work for an Excused Absence

Learning in physical education is based upon "in-class" participation. Each day, a student can earn up to 10 points for dressing out and participating. If a student is not in class, a zero is assigned for that day. If a class is missed for any reason, the student is responsible for making up the work. Work can be made up by doing one of two things:

          1. A current event article (see guidelines below)

or

          2. Do one hour of exercise at home (see guidelines below)

Please refer to the FCPS Student Code of Conduct book (page 3 - 4) regarding the time frame in which make-up work must be turned in. Thank you for cooperation with this matter.

Current Event Article Review Guidelines

Write all four questions on a piece of paper and under each question write the answer. Each question and answer is worth 2 points each.

        1. What is the title of the article?

        2. What is the purpose of the article?

        3. What do you want the audience to know about the article?

        4. What topic does the article apply?

Staple the article to your review. (2 points)

The review is worth a total of 10 points.

Topic for articles: physical wellness, nutrition, first aid and safety, exercise, fitness, stress management, substance abuse, diseases

Article Sources: newspaper, magazines, brochures, Internet

No inappropriate topics, please.

One Hour of Exercise at Home Guidelines

On a sheet of paper, explain the exercise(s) that student conducted. Include type(s), quantity, date, and duration.

Parent signature on this same sheet of paper is a MUST. This confirms the work that actually occurred.
