Fitness For Life: Syllabus

This class consists of an assessment of the health-related fitness components and the formulation of an individual fitness program. This class will be held in the gym for the first semester and in the classroom (room #230) for the second semester. Dress out every day when meeting in the gym. This class does not count for a PE or health credit. Fitness for Life is an elective class.

Objectives:

Improved fitness level

Assess personal fitness level to identify strengths and areas to improve

Identify major muscles of the human body

Develop an individualized fitness program

Being responsible for one’s own fitness / wellness level

Class Expectations:

Dress out and participate everyday.

Face forward and be quiet during exercises.

Give your best effort with all of the exercises, assignments, and activities.

Have proper materials every class.

Be polite and cooperate with classmates and teacher.

Refrain from using profanity.

Go to the restroom, locker, ect…before class.

No excuses!!

Have fun and make an "A".

What will be covered in the classroom?

The five components of physical fitness (muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and body composition).

Stretching (types, safety precautions, exercises, harmful positions, and correct positions).

Isometric, isotonic, and isokinetic contractions.

FIT (frequency, intensity, time).

Weight room safety.

Myths about weight training.

Major muscles in the human body.

Target Heart Rate, Maximum Heart Rate, and Resting Heart Rate.

Body composition and weight control.

What activities will we do in the gym?

Physical Fitness Testing Weight Lifting

Aerobics / Tae-bo Endurance Walking and Jogging

Mile Walk Test Conditioning Stations

Para-Course Calisthenics

Materials Needed For Class

Pen / Pencil Notebook Paper

Folder Gym Clothes (everyday)

LHS Agenda

 

This class requires participation and a positive attitude. Please come to class ready to learn.
