Literacy Tips

One easier way to improve literacy in physical education class is through vocabulary.

The following is a short list of words that are commonly used in the physical education and health class setting.

Study these words and try to correctly use each one in your own conversation within a week.

1.  aerobic - requiring oxygen; requires the heart and lungs to work harder than normal to deliver oxygen to the tissues (ex. jogging for 20 minutes without resting)

2.  anaerobic - not requiring oxygen; can require strength but does not work the heart and lungs for a long period of time (ex.  bench pressing maximum)

3.  body composition - the proportion of muscle, bone, fat, and other tissues that make up a person's total body weight

4.  flexibility - the ability of the joints to move through a full range of motion and recover without injury

5.  strength - ability of muscles to work against a resistance
