Class Information

Dear Liberty Families,
I am very excited to begin our second school year here at
Liberty. After such a successful 1st year, I know this one will be even
better. I am Susan Roberts the P.E./Health/Dance teacher. Hopefully
this letter will help to answer questions about your child’s P.E.
program. Call me anytime that you have questions or email me,
susan.roberts@faytte.kyschools.us.
Philosophy
The PE program will emphasize Health and Fitness so that children can
develop habits that will give them the confidence and desire to remain
physically active for a lifetime. My goal is to give children a variety
of ways to enjoy being physically active so that they may benefit
physically, as well as socially and intellectually throughout life.
Attire
Requirement
(Please bring
tennis shoes or keep a pair at school, if others are worn)
To increase children’s safety and assure that they are able to move
freely during activity, they will need to be dressed appropriately for
P.E. When the whole class dresses out, they will earn a star and a
“goal” amount of stars gives them a “free time” where they can choose
the equipment or activity. Children who continuously wear inappropriate
attire will be assigned an alternate activity during free time (3 times
and out). They will not be able to participate without tennis shoes.
It is a large part of the intermediate student’s grade.
Fitness
Points
(weekly assignment, 10% of grade)
This is mandatory for students receiving letter grades. This is for 4th
5th and students. Students will be required to bring points
to fulfill weekly homework. This assignment is to inspire your child to
make fitness a part of his/her daily routine. This will begin August
26th and will end May 14th. The highest fitness point achievers will be
recognized at the awards ceremony. For credit, a student’s name date
of activity and an adult witness’s signature is needed. These points
are continuous even when school is out or P.E. is missed. The activity
should last at least 20 minutes. See back for more information.
Grade
System
70 percent
participation, effort, attitude, sportsmanship/behavior
20 percent
skills/assignments (student’s responsibility for missed assignments.)
10 percent
fitness points (students are required to turn in 2 per week)
___________
100 percent
The
first weeks of school will be dedicated to rules, procedures, basic
moves, fitness skills, and cooperation activities. Please contact me if
there are any special considerations that I need to be aware of for your
child. I’m looking forward to a great year. Check out the P.E. webpage
for upcoming events or updates.
Sincerely,
Susan Roberts, P.E., Health, and Dance Teacher
