Student Check Out - Students check out books or magazines (except for the most recent issue) during library class time. Kindergarten, first and second grade students check out one book and third, fourth, and fifth grade students may check out two books.
Student Book Return - Books are due on the students' next scheduled library day. If a student does not return a book, another book will not be checked out until he/she has returned or paid for that book. Each class must return books to the library helpers as soon as possible on the morning of their library day. This helps us get the books checked in so the computer will allow them to check out that day. Books being returned at times other than library class time should be dropped in the Book Return slot at the check-out desk.
Teacher Check Out - Books, magazines, and audiovisual materials are available for teachers to check out. Media checked out is not due back at a set time, but please return the materials promptly when you are finished with them because other teachers may be waiting to use them.
Teacher Return - All materials being returned should be placed in slot at the check-out desk.
Professional Books and Magazines - Professional books and magazines are purchased for the teachers to check out. The books are located in the AV room on the shelves by the laminator. The most recent magazines can be found on the center counter in the AV room and the back issues can be found in the boxes on the wall shelves in the AV room. Please remember to check all of these materials out at the circulation desk and return them in the Book Return slot.
Research in the Library - Everyone is welcome to plan research time in the media center. Please meet with the librarian to discuss the topic(s) to be researched and to schedule a time for your class to come to the library when another class is not scheduled. You will need to stay with your class at this time and we will work together with the research.
Classroom Equipment - There is equipment in the AV room that may be checked out such as film projectors, slide projectors, overhead projectors, record players, video cameras, and tape recorders. Please check these items out at the circulation desk. Please return all of the equipment you have in your classroom at the end of the year for inventory.
Equipment Repair - Equipment in need of repair should be brought to the library with a note explaining the problem and the teacher's name. It will then be sent to the electrical shop for repair. The only exception is bulbs, they are replaced here at school.
Operating Equipment - Always remember to cool the bulbs with the fan on the filmstrip projectors before turning them off (if this is not done, they may burst). Also, according to Fayette County Board Policy, students are not permitted to move equipment carts.
Closed Circuit TV and VCR - We have one TV and VCR, located in the AV room, which feeds into a closed circuit system throughout the school. To view in the classroom, your TV must be turned to channel 3. To use this equipment, you must sign up for a time on the sheet located on the TV. It is then your responsibility to start and stop the tape. If you are not able to leave your class, someone in the library can start your tape if you send a student as a reminder and the tape is at the starting point.
Camcorder - You may reserve the camcorder in the library. When reserving please allow enough time to charge the battery. You will need to supply you own tape(s) when filming if you wish to keep the tape.
Laminator - The laminator is located in the AV room. Mary McClellen, the library clerk, does all of the laminating for the school. Please leave the materials to be laminated next to the laminator and sign the sheet. Please pick up your materials the following day in the AV room.
Opaque Projector - We have one opaque projector in the school which can be found in the AV room. Please check it out before you take it.
Slide Projector - We have a carousel slide projector in the AV room. Please see the librarian to reserve it. Most of the filmstrip projectors can be used as slide projectors as well.
Fayette County Media Center - Media services houses media for you to use. This material can be ordered online at http://webmax.fayette.k12.ky.us/webmax/start.html. Please see the librarian for login names. We also have catalogs of these materials on the professional shelves in the AV room and forms for you to use when requesting any materials. You will send the white copy of the form to "Media Services" through the courier and keep the yellow copy for your records. You should receive confirmation of your order. Each form should only include items for a single month. You will need to check the counter in the office for the materials you requested on the day before you expect to receive them. Send the materials back to Media Services through the courier.
