Geography

  • In the Bluegrass they think the grass is blue.

  • Also the Bluegrass is located in the north central part of Kentucky.

  • The Cherokee tribe claimed the bluegrass and also signed a treaty.

  • The river that runs through Kentucky is the Kentucky River.

  • The Bluegrass region covers an area of 8,000 square miles.

  • The Bluegrass is the 3rd largest region.

  • The capital of Kentucky is Frankfort.  Frankfort is located in the Bluegrass region.

History

  • In 1750 Tomas Walker was the first to pass Kentucky.

  • Churchill Downs opened its self in 1875.

  • Churchill Downs was also the first region in Kentucky.

  • Daniel Boone was the first white man in KY.

  • Kentucky became the fifteenth state of the union in 1792.

  • From 1904 to 1909 Kentucky farmers fought a group of tobacco firms in what became known as the tobacco wars.   

Economy

  • Large producer of tobacco.

  • Many farmers depend on tobacco to make money.

  • Farmers grow crops like corn, cabbage, and tobacco.

  • The Bluegrass has many natural resources such as soil and minerals.
