Parent Conferences:
We hope to meet with as many parents as
possible this year. Research proves that children whose parents are
involved in their education are much more successful than those who are
not involved.
The M-Unit teachers
will be contacting parents to set up conferences. Please feel free to
contact us to set up a conference. We can set up conferences Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday from 3:05 – 3:45.

PX Bucks
PX Bucks are stamps your students receive
from teachers for filling out their agenda and having them signed
nightly, caught being good, doing the right thing in class, or various
other reasons teachers feel warrant a reward. We will have several
auctions during the year. Students bid on items using their stamps.
Any donations of
gift cards, bags of Hot Cheetos, pop, gel pens, or any other items you
think 6th graders would enjoy would be greatly appreciated.

Gum:
Gum is not allowed at Winburn. We are beginning to see more students
with gum. The consequence for chewing gum is Lunch Detention. If a
student is caught multiple times in a day or three times in a week,
he/she will receive a referral and SAFE time. We consider multiple gum
infractions to be failure to follow directions. Please help us in this
matter by talking to your child about our gum chewing policy.

Funky Friday:
Today was our first “Funky Friday” of the year. All students on level 5
were rewarded with free time in the gym during the last 15 minutes of
the day. Ask your child if he/she enjoyed “Funky Friday”. |

Homework Expectations
Your child will have
homework throughout the school year. Our expectation is that homework
will be completed at home and returned the next day during class.
Homework is an extension of learning and is an important component of
your child’s learning.
Many teachers on our team will
have the student call home if he/she comes without homework complete.
You can keep up with your student’s homework through the agenda and the
homework hotline (381-3969) |
Agenda Expectations
Agenda Expectations:
M-Unit Students are required to fill out their agenda for each class.
Their agendas should be brought home daily for parents/guardians to
review and sign. This is a wonderful tool for communicating what your
child is learning in each class. You may also write questions for
teachers in your child’s agenda.

Awesome Job
What
an awesome start to the new school year. Middle school is such a change
from elementary school. Students have nine classes so we spent much of
the first week teaching our new 6th graders how to be
Warriors. They have learned how to move around the building, to and from
classes, to and from the lunchroom, and to exploratories. We are amazed
at how well this team follows directions and understands expectations.
Keep up the good work.
Probably the hardest
adjustment to middle school is the dreaded locker. If your child is
having problems or is frustrated with learning how to open a locker,
please encourage him/her not to get frustrated. Practice makes
perfect. Some students take a little longer to get it, but they all
eventually become pros at opening their lockers.
